Trump is deciding this week between a new Iran ceasefire and full-scale war. Those are the two options on the table, per Axios reporting from Monday. Goldman Sachs says Brent crude hits $120 if Hormuz stays disrupted. Oil is already at $82. The US has now completed ten consecutive nights of strikes against Iran. Iran retaliated by hitting US targets in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Syria simultaneously.
Also tomorrow: Treasury publishes the architecture of the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. The most anticipated US government crypto announcement of the year drops in the middle of the biggest geopolitical crisis of the year. That's quite a week.
Good morning. Two genuinely consequential stories. Let's get into them.

Oil is up 30% from its July lows as the ceasefire collapsed and the blockade was reinstated. Brent briefly topped $91 Monday before Iran's foreign ministry signaled it had received diplomatic proposals from international mediators, which pulled crude back toward $88. WTI is at $82 and holding. Goldman's $120 scenario requires Hormuz to remain disrupted for an extended period. Markets are pricing somewhere between those two outcomes.
Bitcoin is up 2.2% this week despite the geopolitical noise, holding above $66,000 as the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve announcement approaches tomorrow. Morgan Stanley added BTC, ETH, and SOL to E*TRADE this week, the first major retail brokerage to offer spot crypto directly alongside traditional assets. The regulatory and institutional infrastructure around Bitcoin is expanding faster than the price is moving.
Gold is barely moving at $4,070 despite ten consecutive nights of US military strikes on Iran. The safe-haven bid is being almost entirely offset by rate hike expectations. September hike odds sit at 53% as of Monday. When those odds fall, gold moves fast. Until then, the geopolitical floor is holding the price steady without letting it run.

๐ข๏ธ Trump is choosing between a ceasefire and full-scale war. Goldman says oil hits $120 if he picks wrong.
By The Alternative Insider Research Team
Axios reported Monday that Trump is nearing a decision between two options: pursue a new ceasefire framework with Iran, or escalate to what would effectively be full-scale war. Those are not two points on a spectrum. They are two completely different macro environments. One sends oil back toward $70. The other, per Goldman Sachs, sends Brent above $120 per barrel if the Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted for an extended period.
The backdrop: US Central Command confirmed its tenth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian military targets over the weekend. Iran retaliated by launching attacks against US positions in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Syria simultaneously, a significant expansion of the theater compared to earlier rounds of the conflict. Israel separately told US intelligence it believes Iran moved nuclear centrifuges into a fortified mountain facility called Pickaxe Mountain. Two US service members were killed in Jordan. A worldwide travel alert was issued over the weekend.
Why the binary matters for your portfolio
Markets don't price binary outcomes well. They tend to price the weighted average of two possibilities and get it wrong in both directions when one scenario actually lands. Right now, oil at $82 is pricing something between ceasefire and full-scale war. WTI at $120 is not priced in. Neither is WTI at $65 on a genuine diplomatic resolution.
The two scenarios have very different implications for every asset in your Pulse table above. A genuine ceasefire means oil falls sharply, inflation expectations reset lower, rate hike odds drop, and gold and Bitcoin both get a tailwind from improved monetary policy prospects. Full-scale war means oil spikes toward Goldman's $120 target, inflation gets a fresh shock, rate hike odds go back up, and the specific assets that benefit are energy commodities and physical gold held outside the financial system, exactly the assets that rate hike fears have been suppressing all year.
There's one small signal that something may be shifting. Iran's foreign ministry said Monday it had received proposals from international mediators and that negotiations with the United States could continue "if they serve the country's national interests." That's not a ceasefire. It's not even close to one. But it's the first public diplomatic signal from Tehran in two weeks, and oil pulled back from $91 to $88 on Brent within hours of the statement. Markets are watching carefully for any follow-through.
|
The Bottom Line
Trump's decision this week is the single most consequential macro catalyst of the year. A ceasefire and full-scale war produce opposite outcomes for oil, gold, inflation, and Fed policy simultaneously. Whatever he decides, the assets that benefit from dollar weakness and energy disruption, physical gold, Bitcoin, and hard commodities, remain the structural play in both scenarios. The degree varies enormously. The direction doesn't.

โฟ The Bitcoin Reserve drops tomorrow. Nobody is talking about it.
Tomorrow, July 22, is the deadline set by a White House executive order for Treasury to publish the architecture of the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. The design, including how it's funded, how Bitcoin is custodied, and what scale the government intends to build toward, has to be made public. This is the most significant US government Bitcoin announcement since the ETF approval in January 2024. It's landing tomorrow. Most financial media is too focused on oil to notice.
The executive order specified the reserve must be built without using taxpayer funds. That constraint shapes everything about what Treasury can announce tomorrow. The most likely mechanism involves using Bitcoin already seized from criminal forfeiture proceedings, of which the US government holds an estimated 200,000 coins. A sovereign wealth fund structure using existing government assets is also possible. What's almost certainly off the table is a congressional appropriation, which would require a separate vote and hasn't been scheduled.
The Clarity Act has bipartisan momentum, with Rep. Bryan Steil publicly optimistic it clears the Senate next week. Morgan Stanley added Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana to E*TRADE this week, making it the first major retail brokerage to offer spot crypto directly alongside stocks and bonds. The number of adults with direct access to Bitcoin through mainstream financial channels is increasing faster than any period since the asset class was created.
None of these developments require Hormuz to be open. None of them require the Fed to cut rates. They're structural, legislation and institutional infrastructure moving in one direction regardless of what oil does this week. The geopolitical noise is real and the war is real. The Bitcoin infrastructure story is also real and it's moving on a completely different timeline. Both things are true this week.

๐ The Great Rotation of 2026 is accelerating. Stansberry Research named it this weekend and the data backs it up. Tech and AI stocks are down sharply over the past two weeks as investors rotate into energy, healthcare, and defensive value plays. The Nasdaq lost over 20% from its peak. The same macro environment that's suppressing gold is hitting growth stocks differently: rate hike fears hurt long-duration assets most. Bitcoin, gold, and energy are all outperforming the Nasdaq over any trailing three-month window. Something structural may be shifting in where capital wants to sit.

๐ฆ Nasdaq received SEC approval to move stocks onto blockchain rails. The exchange quietly received regulatory clearance to begin transitioning equity settlement infrastructure to a blockchain-based system. DTCC went live with its own parallel system the same week. Morgan Stanley added BTC, ETH, and SOL to E*TRADE. Larry Fink dedicated his entire 2026 annual letter to tokenization. This is not a trend anymore. It's an infrastructure migration happening in real time.

๐ฎ๐ฑ Israel says Iran moved nuclear centrifuges into Pickaxe Mountain. US intelligence shared Israeli assessments that Iran relocated nuclear enrichment equipment into a heavily fortified mountain facility during the current conflict. If accurate, this changes the military calculus significantly, as hardened underground facilities require different munitions and longer campaign timelines than surface targets. The nuclear dimension of the Iran conflict, mostly absent from headlines since February, is back.

๐ September rate hike odds now at 53%. They were at 40% last week after the cool CPI print. The oil spike from the ceasefire collapse pushed them back up. Warsh testifies again this week and the market will be reading every word for any shift in tone since his last appearance. A single dovish sentence about monitoring incoming data could be enough to take September back below 50%.

๐ Houthi forces declared a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia. Iran reportedly instructed Houthi forces to prepare to disrupt Red Sea shipping if the US targets Iranian power infrastructure. Kuwait's oil facility was struck by Iran over the weekend. The conflict is expanding geographically with each exchange. Red Sea disruption layered on top of Hormuz disruption would be the most significant supply shock to global shipping since the Suez Crisis.

๐ต Global debt hit a record $353 trillion in the first half of 2026. Government debt is approaching one-third of that figure, also a record. The State Street July gold monitor noted this specifically as a structural support for gold as a monetary hedge independent of any short-term rate hike cycle. The number that matters isn't the weekly oil move. It's the fiscal trajectory that makes every dollar printed to service that debt worth slightly less than the one before it.
