How we work
Our sources, how we date and update figures, and how the publication is funded.
Where our numbers come from
We build our research on the agencies and institutions that produce the data, and we name them on every chart, table and tool:
- Prices and inflation: the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (Consumer Price Index).
- The national debt, deficits and interest: the US Treasury (Fiscal Data, Monthly Treasury Statement) and the Congressional Budget Office.
- Growth and incomes: the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the Census Bureau.
- Interest rates, money and the Fed's balance sheet: the Federal Reserve.
- Gold, silver and other commodities: COMEX futures prices for the latest quote and the World Bank's commodity price data for history.
- Laws and rules: the text and record on congress.gov, the Federal Register and the issuing agency.
Where we use a private data provider or an industry body, we say so and name it.
How we date and update figures
Every live figure carries the date or period it describes. Tools are rebuilt when the source publishes new data, and each tool page explains its method and lists its sources. Guides show when they were published and last updated.
What our research is, and is not
Alternative Insider explains how money, debt and prices work and what the data shows. It is general research for a broad readership. It does not take account of anyone's circumstances and is not a recommendation to buy or sell anything. The disclaimer sets this out in full.
How the publication is funded
The research is supported by the newsletter and by partner offers in it. Partners have no say over what we publish. The affiliate disclosure explains the arrangements.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and record the change on the corrections page. To report an error, email hello@alternativeinsidernews.com.
