How it works

Each of the eight questions has four answers, scored from 0 (least tied to the dollar) to 3 (most tied to it). The scorecard adds your answers and scales the total to 100.

  • 80 to 100: High exposure
  • 55 to 79: Moderate exposure
  • 30 to 54: Partially hedged
  • 0 to 29: Well positioned

The score describes how much of what you hold is priced in, or moves with, the US dollar. It is a starting point for understanding your exposure, not an assessment of your finances or a recommendation.

Questions readers ask

What does dollar exposure mean?

It is the share of your wealth whose value in real terms depends on the purchasing power of the US dollar: cash, bank deposits, bonds and anything else paid out in a fixed number of dollars.

Is a high score bad?

Not in itself. Most US savers hold most of their wealth in dollar assets. A high score means a sustained bout of inflation or a weaker dollar would reach more of what you own.

Do I need to enter my email to see my score?

No. The score and its meaning appear on screen when you finish. The email is only for the detailed breakdown.
